St. Cloud State Freshmen orientation

According to Inside College Hockey St. Cloud State had the seventh best freshmen class in all of college hockey and third in the WCHA behind Denver University and the University of Minnesota.

Leading the way in that freshmen class is Roseau's Mike Lee who played last year for Fargo of the USHL. Lee was second in the USHL in wins and save percentage last season, was the recipient of the USA Hockey Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year Award. He is the top ranked freshman goalie by Inside College Hockey.

At Roseau Lee started as a sophomore and won his first 42 games including a state championship is sophomore season. He was drafted 91st this summer by the Phoenix Coyotes. Lee has a great opportunity to play early because the only returning goalie with experience is junior Dan Dunn who played in nine games both his sophomore and freshman season. Last year Dunn had a .904 save pct. and a 2.6 GAA.

The top forward entering the Huskies program is Ben Hanowski who was picked in the third round by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hanowski had an amazing high school career at Little Falls becoming the state's all time leader in points with 196 goals and 209 assists in 117 game. He joins former high school teammate Jared Festlser at St. Cloud State.

Another great addition to the forwards for the Huskies is David Eddy, who since high school has always been underated. Eddy is a great athlete who was a three-sport star at Woodbury before playing one season in the USHL for the Sioux Falls Stampede. Eddy is a proven scorer who tallied 21 goals and 38 assists in 63 games last year.

Taylor Johnson is the top defenseman in the Huskies freshmen class. Johnson was a solid two-way defenseman at White Bear Lake before moving on to the USHL and playing for the Green Bay Gamblers. It's not certain how quickly he'll be thrown into the fire, but eventually he will be a good power play player for the Huskies. Johnson scored eight goals and added 24 assists in 59 games for the Gamblers.
